This
parable that is found in Matthew 25:1-13 Jesus was describing what the His
second coming was going to be like.
1 “At that
time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and
went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and
five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take
any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along
with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and
they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang
out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the
virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to
the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9
“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go
to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while
they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who
were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Are you busy with what God has
called you too? I was looking at this and I realized that yes there are ten
virgins who have heard the news and are waiting on his arrival. But only five
of them were prepared for him to be delayed. I know you have probable heard if
you have been around church for even two weeks that Jesus is coming back. The
parable talks about those who are not prepared and those who are just waiting.
Many have heard the gospel and even attend church on a regular basis. The
problem is they do not want or are not given any more to do than to sit there
and wait. Notice the warning Jesus gives at the end of the parable.
In James 1:22-25 we are told to be doers of the word, “22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. We are called to apply God’s word to everything we do from what we read to what we watch on TV. To relationships we have with others and with our families. I know we talk about being raptured but God calls people to meet him every day. Some will be welcomed home and others will live in turmoil we forever more. Please don’t sit by unprepared for what He has warned us about in His word. We must be about His business. Remember 1048 people experience death in the world every minute. Many of them have never excepting Jesus as their savior if you think about the percentages there is a chance that 2/3 of them are headed to hell. Because they have either never heard the gospel or they do not believe. I know that is hard to hear but we are called to do more than sit on the pew on Sunday morning. As Brother Gary has said if al God called you to was salvation he would have called you home after you were saved. Have a blessed day ask God to help you be a doer today. God Bless you as you are obedient to His word today.
