1 How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live
together in harmony!2 For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that
was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of
his robe.3 Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon
that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.
Psalms 133:1-3 (NLT)
When we as Christians are willing and able to bind together
in one accord before God the experience of His presence is so powerful we often
wonder why we are so divided. At least I do. I come from a varied background as
many of you do. I have participated in many interdenominational gatherings such
as music concerts and special prayer gatherings and am always amazed in the
power in which God exhibits in these places. Look at the Billy Graham Crusades
they are powerful moves of God that when you look at what churches are involved
no Christian denomination is left out; because the message is not one of denomination
but of Jesus Christ and His saving grace and power.
Too often we fail to understand what God has called us to.
We are called to serve Him in accordance with His word. His word tells us He
sent His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins. That He went to a cross on
which He died. He was placed in a tomb
and three days later was raised from the dead. Forty days later he ascended
into heaven where he is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding for
you and me. We are set aside for His
purpose not ours.
When Jesus departed He left us with a few instructions that
if we believed in Him and confessed our sins asking Him to forgive us of them
than we could be saved. Once we accept His forgiveness we are made new through
the power of the Holy Spirit. He has commissioned
us to do one thing and that is to tell others the Good News about Him. So they
might also find salvation through Him. Maybe I have a simplistic view of
scripture but if we could all agree on these few items what a difference it
would make in the world. God has poured out His power and blessings when
individuals have come together in one accord to worship Him and be about His commission.
I pray today that we get back to that commission and a simpler understanding of
what He has called us to. I pray you are strengthened each day as you walk in
the Light of His Word.
