The Lowly Place

41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them,  "You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."   Mark 10:41-45

My grandfather was a plumber. He taught me only one thing that I really remember and that was hot on the left cold on the right and that water I never flows up hill. Now I promise you it was much more colorful than that when I was 10 but we will say it that way. You may wonder what that has to do with the scripture but you know we apply the attributes of water to the Holy Spirit. He is poured out on us ,we are washed over by his power you can probably not name all the different illustrations we as Christians use and even the bible creates those analogies.  Well I was reading the next chapter of the book Humility by Andrew Murray he stated this one idea that is so true and I had never thought of it, "The Holy Spirit like water will flow to the lowest point." Jesus taught that for an individual to truly serve God they had to understand it required humility and a servant's heart. Yet today just like the brothers desired to sit at His right and left we often put our pride on display. Things don't change in human nature  it still drives us to desire the best for ourselves. That is why it is unnatural for most people to take the stand of humility in their actions and word. Too often we forget the sacrifice that Jesus gave for us and what we have been delivered from. I know that might not sit well with some people but it is true. We have a relationship with Jesus for salvation still we don't really understand who He was or the heart of what He has called us to. A life lived in humility allows an individual to let the love of God flow out just like water. At first it might just be a trickle like a new spring breaking up out of the dry ground. Than as time goes on and we learn more and more to humble ourselves the stronger the flow will become than the promise Jesus made to the Samaritan women will be true in our own lives and a well of living water will come forth. I ask you today to seek the lowly place and allow the Holy Spirit to begin the process of filling you up. Have a blessed day in the Lord.
