Children of God

John 1:9-13, “9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

I was studying and this verse showed me something new to me. So I thought I would share it. After the day of remembrance our nation had yesterday I was struck by the first verse, “the true light that gives that light to everyone was coming into the world,” a promise that there is always hope when we look towards the true light.  For many people; yesterday was a day filled with sorrow and fear; it reopened wounds that might not have healed completely. For others it may have brought closer. So the question becomes what is next? Well I tell you the rest of this scripture is a great place to start no matter which person you are. It is not always easy to move on but we must. For all who are willing there is mercy and grace to be found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Is it not time for us to allow this healing to take place. Now this is available not just because it’s the day after 9-11 this grace is available everyday if we are willing to believe on the name of Jesus. I love the promise. We have the, “right to become the Children of God.”  It is not because of who are parents were or were not, you and I cannot decide to be a child of God separate from a relationship with Jesus. It is only by God’s grace that we can be a member of His family. There is no way for us to earn it.

Ephesians 2:8-10, “8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

As a child of God we must be first thankful in all situations. For in our trials which will come we are never alone. But also we are God’s work in process He uses those times of trial to mold us into His image so that we can do the work He has set before us. I desire today more of God’s grace and mercy. How about you? I hope your day is filled with the blessings of God may His peace be with you always.
