1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law,
Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the
wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2
And the angel of the Lord appeared
to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold,
the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. 3 And
Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not
burned.” 4 When the Lord
saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses,
Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come
near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing
is holy ground.” 6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for
he was afraid to look at God.
Ex 3:1-6 (ESV)
Good morning and God Bless, This was shared with me Friday
night by Bishop Eddie Allen and I wanted to pass it along to you. It has to do with
the concept or lack thereof in Holiness in our lives and churches today. You
read in scripture that Moses had been tending the flocks of his father-in-law. He
has been out and about in the desert during his forty years of hiding probably thousands
of times and you can be sure he had passed by this same bush and area several
times during this forty year exile. The difference though was God was present
when he passed this way on that day. You see our lives are a lot like that bush
they can be dry and just going along doing the best we can under our own power
not bring any attention to the real issues at hand but when God is in the midst
of our lives things change. You see His power is so much greater than anything
we can even imagine. His power is required for a life devoted to Holy living
because we read in Matthew 19:16-17 that there is no one and nothing good separated
from God.
16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher,
what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your
question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments.”
Matt 19:16-17 (NLT)
We cannot keep those commandments separate from the power of
Jesus who is the one and only Son of God. We are not able to live a life of
holiness under our own strength it requires we live in submission to God and
obey his commands. Than we can experience a more abundant and fulfilled life.
In our churches and our personal life do we desire to come close to God and
stand in the presence of His holiness or do we prefer to be like the children
of Israeli and let others talk to God for us. To truly experience a life of
holiness God must be in the midst of it. To experience real revival in your
church or your personal life God has to be in the midst of it. We are nothing
and no one without God being present in our lives and our relationships. He is
the one who provides the power to change everything we face. I challenge you
today to not be afraid but to approach Him with wonder and allow Him to bring
that change to your life. Holiness is only found in God! Have a blessed day in the Lord!
