I got up this morning thinking about the
faithfulness of God sometimes it is easy to forget that God is one thing above
all the rest; He is faithful to His promises to those who love Him. When our world is falling apart and we can’t seem to make sense
of what is going on around us we must remember in that we have placed our trust
In Jesus and remember in that relationship grace peace and mercy are found. Whether
it be the loss of a loved one, financial difficulties, or any number of things
that go on in our lives we must remember who we have decided to follow. Knowing
who God is and the characteristics of who He is and the promises that come from
those traits should give us strength. Some of them are found in Psalm 145:8-21:
8 The Lord is gracious and merciful; slow to
anger and abounding in steadfast love. 9 The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has
made. 10 All
your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints shall bless you! 11 They shall speak of the
glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, 12 to make known to the
children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your
kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all
generations. [The Lord is faithful
in all his words and kind in all his works.] 14 The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are
bowed down. 15 The
eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. 16 You
open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. 17 The
Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works. 18 The Lord
is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He
fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves
them. 20 The
Lord preserves all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak the
praise of the Lord, and let all
flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
Psalms 145:8-21 (ESV)
The first verse tells us some of the most important
traits about God when our world is shaken He is gracious and merciful. In His
grace and mercy we can find comfort during the trials that we face. A promise
we find here is that He has not allowed whatever you are facing to come your
way because He is angry with you instead His love for you is steadfast and never-ending.
We must hold onto that promise. Life is
hard from time to time sickness and death came into the world when Adam sinned
but even from that point on God’s mercy began to make a way for the salvation
of mankind; that is the mercy He shows to His creation. In verse 13 we read The
Lord is faithful in all His words and kind in all His works. We must understand God knows exactly what we
are facing each day; In the Lord’s prayer found in Matthew 6:11 we read these
words, “Give us this day our daily bread.” We ask this knowing the faithfulness
of God to deliver upon His promises. We can have faith that God is there to
pick us up when we are too tired to go on and that He does not just lift us up
for a time but He will give you strength for every day and every trail. The
last point I need to make cover verses 17-20 and simple tells us that God is righteous
in all His ways that He is near to those who call on Him in a true desire for
His strength, grace and mercy. And in the end He has preserved all those who
love him. Unlike those who do not know Him we have a hope for tomorrow. No man
knows another’s heart only God does. We must live with an assurance that what we
read in God’s word and the experience we have with His Holy Spirit will see us
through every trail of life that comes our way. I know often we may feel like King David in Psalm
119:82:
82 My
eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me?
But I can promise you there is
comfort found in His word and presence if you will just turn to Him and trust
in the promises that are found there. I leave you with Psalm 119:132 it reads; “Come
and show me your mercy, as you do all who love your name. Whatever your
situation there can be peace found if you will turn to God and ask Him for it.
He is faithful to provide for each day and every need. Hve a blessed day as you
walk in the light of God’s word.
