God's Pet-Peeves

16 There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, 18 a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, 19 a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (NLT)

As we try to understand the character of God a little better it makes sense that there are some things He hates above all things. You see we all have our pet-peeves you know that thing that every time you see someone doing it you just want to reach over and smack them. There are just some things people do that drive you crazy. As an example driving down the road with their turn signals on for miles is one of those things that drive me crazy. Being created in the image of God explains some of that. If He has things He hates and detests we will too. The problem is our pet-peeves are not the same as His.

His are much more based on our character flaws. He hates it when we look down on one another and treat individuals poorly just because they may not be exactly like us. He despises a liar and we know from scripture liars are hell bound without Jesus. For those who take life from the innocent, they need to understand that God despises their actions. For those people who are always gossiping and stirring up strife inside and outside of churches the evil you are plotting will become known and God detests what you are doing. You ever just rushed out knowing what you were fixing to do was wrong. God really hates liars and those who bear false witness to bring about their own selfish desires. Those are six of the things He hates. Are we guilty of any of them?

The seventh is the one that I find the most interesting and the one I see most within the church today is the person who sows discord. You know on the day you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior you became part of His family; those you sit on the pews with and every other person who calls on the name of Jesus is your brother or sister in Christ. So why do we spend so much time sowing seeds of discord within our family. It says right here God despises the actions of those who live this way.  Today we must make a choice will we continue to anger God through disobedience to His word or will we change our perspective to match up with His. If we become of one mind seeking after His will for our lives and the lives of those around us and learn to despise these seven things as God does instead of allowing them a place in our own lives what changes would come.  I pray God gives you strength for the day ahead and that he blesses you as you continue to walk in the light of His Word.
