Love's Testimony

8  Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Romans 13:8-10 (ESV)

God has in His word shown us one aspect of His nature above all other the others that we might read about and try to understand especially within the New Testament. The one attribute is love. Yes we can find Him as a jealous God in scripture and we can find Him with anger in some of his responses to disobedience. Yet when we really look at His attribute of love we will understand that those other characteristics come from the issue that He loves each of us.

Have you ever expressed love to someone and it not been received or accepted? How did it make you feel? Did you become angry? When you see that person you love with someone else did you become jealous? Than why would we expect any less of God in whose image we are made? If we become angry and jealous when our love is not received or returned; how do you think God should react when we turn our backs on Him and give our love to the world that will only take it and use it? Leaving us with nothing in return.

To many times we assume that God does not love us and that He has brought some new trial into our lives just so He can torment us.  I have heard many individuals say that and that comes from their experience and knowledge of God. In our world today more people have not read the Bible than have. There was a time that everyone you met might have heard the story of Daniel in the lion’s den or Moses parting the Red Sea but not so today. The only thing the world really knows about God is what those who call on His name share with them and this is not through our speech but instead it is through our actions. When those of us who claim to be Christians fail to show love to one another and those we meet along our walk of life. The world sees a God that does not have a love for them. Because we are the representatives of a loving God we should love everyone we meet. No matter race, religion, or sexual identity; God would still love them for they have a soul that He has laid a claim upon. He does not agree or love the sin they are in but He still loves them and so should we if Jesus Christ is our Lord.

I leave you with these scriptures and a prayer that God’s Love will be shown by you to all those you meet. Without our love for them they may never know God and without Him they have no future.

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)
14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Colossians 3:14 (NLT)
27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

Proverbs 3:27 (NLT)
