Homecoming

2 Corinthians 5:1-7, “1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight.”

Well you know its homecoming today for many churches. If you don’t understand what that is; it’s when a church celebrates its beginnings and its future. Most churches that are celebrating this today are going to start early, have a guest speaker some sort of special music and just a wonderful time of fellowship with a good meal to follow when people sit around telling stories of friends and loved ones who are gone on to be with the Lord or the next generation that is coming up. It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and honor to the power of God to provide and sustain a body of believers. But you are probably wondering what all that has to do with the scripture. Well God’s word in several places talks about a homecoming that awaits each and everyone of us that are believers in Jesus Christ. When I first looked at this scripture I was thinking about the way it will affect my physical body. God has promised to provide a new body for all those who call on his name. Which is great but then I realized as a member of the church I am part of the Body of Christ and God has also promised to restore and empower it when He returns.  We will one day be a body of believers were there is no strife, no one gossiping and no one trying fighting for control or to be in charge. We will all be able to live in harmony there will be no arguing over the color of the carpet or the style of music that we are going to have. All those things are from the world and one day God will call his people home to Him. But in the meantime we are called to be in the body that He has called us too; each of us has a place in the body. Serving Him the best way we know how showing love and compassion to one another; caring for the needs of a lost and dying world. We must always be about His calling on our lives until the day that He calls us home. If it be in the rapture all at once or as individuals God has a job for us until that time. I pray God opens your eyes and hearts to the work He has for you so that we can serve as one body to the Glory of God. God Bless you as you walk your walk today.
