7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to
send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
Mark 6:7 (KJV)
As Christians today were does our power come from? Is it
found in our prayer life? Does it come out of our works? Does it require
fasting? All of these help us to grow and understand our walk with God better
but they are only actions we take to try to get closer to God? You see many
religious people pray, they do mighty works in the name of God and they fast.
Yet according to scripture power must be given. If God will not be glorified in
the giving you will not receive it. Jesus has sent out the twelve he has given
them power over the unclean spirits.
In Mathew’s Gospel it
reads,
”1 And
when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against
unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all
manner of disease.” Matt 10:1 (KJV)
It was not anything the disciple themselves could do except
be a willing vessel for the service of God. Now they had walked with Jesus and
they knew Him. So we must also. Since He is not here in human form today we
must know Him through His word and through the Holy Spirit. The disciples understood
where the power came from that they had been given and they set out to bring glory
and honor to God preaching repentance everywhere they went. We should be doing the same. Power is given to
be used.
If you seek power from Jesus I give you one warning that is
found in Luke 12:48, “48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a
beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be
required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”
(ESV) If you are given power it is to be used to bring glory and honor
to God. I pray that you are willing and ready to be used by God as you walk in
the light of His Word.
