3 And the king said to them, “I had a dream, and my
spirit is troubled to know the dream.” 4 Then the Chaldeans said to the
king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we
will show the interpretation.”
Dan 2:3-4 (ESV)
Have you ever gone to someone and asked for advice or
direction in your life? If so you may have been faced with the situation that Nebuchadnezzar
had. There are many places that you can turn to for that advice but often we
look for those who will tell us what we want to hear not what we need to hear. Nebuchadnezzar
did not desire advice that would tickle his ears but wanted to know the truth
in the matter. God had showed him the dream but then hide it from his memory.
He needed an Answer but understood only the one who could see what he had seen
would know the correct answer. He knew that he could not always trust his
advisors.
9 if you do not make the dream
known to me, there is but one sentence for you. You have agreed to speak lying
and corrupt words before me till the times change. Therefore tell me the dream,
and I shall know that you can show me its interpretation.”
Dan 2:9 (ESV)
Do you know if those you ask for advice will tell you the
truth not just what you want to hear? Will they give you answers that make
sense and can bring you through the tough times a little wiser and without a
lot of pain? Are they willing to tell you the truth even if it’s painful for
you and them? My question for you is; are you really willing to hear what they
are trying to tell you?
When we look for advice we must go out with an open mind
and we must look for those who care enough about us to tell us the truth. When
we only take the advice that sounds good and tastes like sugar we can often
find ourselves missing out on the best parts of life. I recommend you seek
those who offer Godly counsel, who you know love you and care for your best
interest. Test all the advice you receive against the standard of God’s Word.
In the end that will be the true test of if it was good advice or not. I
challenge you to walk in the light of God’s word everday.
