Power Through Faith

25 And there was a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years—26 she had suffered a great deal under a number of doctors and had spent all her means but was none the better; in fact she was rather worse. 27 She heard about Jesus, got behind him in the crowd, and touched his robe; 28 "If I can touch even his clothes," she said to herself, "I will recover." 29 And at once the hemorrhage stopped, and she felt in her body that she was cured of her complaint.

Mark 5:25-29 (MOFF)

I often wonder if Jesus were still walking on the earth in his human form how many of us would truly follow him. I know that might seem an unfair question; yet we are in His presence everyday through the Holy Spirit and still so many of us walk around without any hope. Giving the devil credit when it is our own lack of faith that often brings us to the situations we find ourselves in. In this testimony we see a woman who had for twelve years tried everything that the world could offer to make her better. Instead of it helping it only got worse. I can only imaging some of the ideas and things that they had tried to do given the level of medical understanding and science in the world at this time. But you know we are not any different than her. Many of us try everything the world has to offer and when we still cannot find satisfaction we consider religion. We may try several out and see if there is one that meets our current need yet allows us to live in the world doing what we desire. The truly sad part is many Christian denominations have begun to look just like the world. It is no longer about faith in Christ but it’s about how many tithe payers and numbers are in the sanctuary on Sunday.

John Wesley taught that there was two churches in his day the visible and the invisible. One the visible was based on the buildings and the people who attended church and sat on the pew. Very often it was hurting and powerless. The invisible was the working of the Holy Spirit in the world. If one was walking in the Spirit than they understood the power which was available to them. That power requires faith. We must believe that Jesus Christ is able to meet our needs. Just like the woman we should desire but to touch the hem of his garment in doing that we will see changes come into our lives. Jesus sent us a helper someone for us to touch when we have a need and as we follow Him; The Holy Spirit has come to bring power to those who call on the name of Jesus. I love the promise that Jesus gave them.

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:7-8 (ESV)

Do you want to know that power? I pray God blesses you and empowers you as you walk in the light of His Word!
