Betrayal
17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me." 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, "Is it I?" 20 He said to them, "It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."
Mark 14:17-21(ESV)
It has been a long day for me. I have been hard at work since 1:00 am except for two hours of sleep so this is when I have felt led to write and share God's word. As we continue through Mark we come to the Passover supper Mark really does not get very detailed about it or what all happens but he does focus on the betrayal of Jesus that is soon coming. We can look at this from several points like what kind of man would it take to betray someone like Jesus after all the miracles that had been worked? Why would Jesus allow himself to be betrayed considering He knew all things from the father. Could this betrayal happen today? Have we ever betrayed Jesus? Honestly that is probably the question we need to be able to answer. Have you and I ever been guilty of betraying Jesus?
You wonder how might we have betrayed Jesus; well that is the problem for most of us we would never consider how we live our lives as betraying Jesus. Yet when we live a life outside of his will we are betraying him. You see we are called to live a life that sets an example of who Christ is and what He desires for those who believe on Him. You see betray means to be disloyal to someone. Are we loyal followers of Christ or are we fair weather fans. The funny part is that when the weather is the fairest; that is when we turn to God the least. we do not really know why Judas decided to turn on and betray Jesus other than scripture tells us the devil entered into Him and led to to betray Christ. We are all born with a sin nature God chose who he would to bring to a conclusion this part of Jesus earthly ministry. Someone had to do it. We see later that he regrets it so much that he tries to return the 30 pieces of silver they will not take it and they call it blood money. I guess my question for you is what have you taken from the world that has lead you to betray the one who died for you? In that betrayal there is a hefty price to be paid. We must remember that Jesus sacrificed to pay our sin debt so we could live eternally with Him in heaven. Have we sold our salvation for something as meaningless as 30 pieces of silver. Beware of your actions and motivations for what you do. It could cost you everything. Have a blessed day as you walk in the light of God's word.
