Watching

32 They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray.”33 He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.34 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Mark 14:32-34 (NLT)

We often hear people say that Jesus has no idea what I face. But those who say that have never read the bible. Scripture teaches that Jesus was tempted as any other man has been tempted but through the strength of God He was able to keep from sinning. But that is not the issue here. We see that Jesus is so distraught with the pending Future and remember he knows exactly what awaits Him. That he is crushed under the grief. I have felt grief a soul crushing life sapping grief as many of you have. Yet today I want you to understand the role between Jesus and His disciples has changed. In this scripture He asks them to watch over Him and pray for Him as he deals with the grief. Today when we are suffering grief we can turn to Him and ask Him to watch over us. The wonderful part is He does so much better of a job than His disciples. You will not find Him asleep when you turn to Him. He will be diligent; watching and praying, supporting you through all the struggles you have. We as a body of believers need to follow His example and be willing to watch with our fellow disciples. The days are growing shorter and His return seems so close. Let us not be found asleep. There are needs to be meet and people to lead to salvation. Let us become diligent in our call and responsibility. Have a blessed day as you walk in the light of His word.
