The Way of Folly

13 The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing. 14 She sits at the door of her house; she takes a seat on the highest places of the town, 15 calling to those who pass by, who are going straight on their way, 16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks sense she says, 17 “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

Proverbs 9:13-18 (ESV)

Well I have shared about the fact that God tells us in His word that wisdom is personified as a women; in Proverbs we are told that she was present from time before creation and has always walked with God as part of His nature. She was there before He created the Heavens or the Earth. Yet as we read here there is always something evil to counteract or work against what is good. As we try to understand the woman of folly; you will see she has set herself up just as wisdom has; offering a place for those who are simple to come in and be with her. These verses 4 and 16 are used to present you with a choice. I decided to go back and include the other verses so you could see it.

1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. 2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 3 She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town, 4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” To him who lacks sense she says, 5 “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. 6 Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”

Proverbs 9:1-6 (ESV)

The world can and does often present itself to us in ways that look like God has opened doors and prepared away for us; only to find ourselves lacking even more than when we started. This is why we must walk in the light of God’s word it allows us to know the difference between His will and our desires so that we will make wise choices and have the insight needed to help others and ourselves find our way into His glory one day. I challenge you to take time each day; more than what you are spending reading this and get into God’s word ask Him to give you wisdom and insight into it; so that you will not be led astray. Have a blessed day as you walk in the light of His word.
